Westbound containers curve through the Arrow River Valley in western Manitoba. The abandoned CPR Miniota branch ran parallel to the CN through here and the elevator is on the CPR RofW alignment.

Westbound coal train bound for Ridley Terminal Prince Rupert sits in front of the station during a crew change. The large station at Smithers was McBride to Prince Rupert division Headquarters till circa.1960 when division offices were moved to Prince George. It is still home base for train crews

Westbound Grain empties having just descended the 2% grade from Binscarth crosses the Assiniboine River before assaulting the 2% grade up to Harrowby. The Bredenbury Sub. on CP's north main crosses the Little Saskatchewan River at Minnedosa with 2% grades east and west and also the Birdtail valley between Solsgith and Birtle on 1.5% grades each way earning the line "Manitoba's mountain railroad". In steam days this area was only location on prairies that use 10 coupled locomotives

CN's Grande Prairie to Dawson Creek wayfreight crosses the Dawson Creek just a few miles east of Dawson Creek. Since CN takeover of BCOL this former NAR line is out of service west of Hythe Alberta. The industries in Dawson creek are now all served from Prince George and Chetwynd

Southbound from Moose Jaw to Assiniboia with empty tank cars for crude loadouts on Great Western Railroad nears the top of the Missouri Coteau ridge. The coteau which stretches from Southeast South Dakota to the North Saskatchewan river north of Lloydminster and is the defining line between the tall grass prairie and the semi arid short grass plains

The St. Stephen wayfreight power sits on the old Roundhouse site prior to to Departure. Classic station sits to the west in the background. McAda was once an important junction with east west Montreal to St.John main being bisected by the north south St.Stephen to Edmundston line

Various power sits on the ready tracks in Golden's south yard. The large building behind is the car shop where all coal cars are maintained. In the mid 80's CP required a large yard for servicing its unit coal trains from the Crowsnest Pass. They built it about a mile south of Golden on the Windermere sub. also building a bypass on the west side of the town allowing abandonment of the portion of the "Windy" that ran through downtown Golden.

The tank cars are a combo of LPG loads from the Empress gas Plant near Burstall and the empties out of storage
