Sydney Steel was still going fairly strong at that point, mainly producing rails for CN. There were roads around the plant that occasionally allowed you a glimpse of a switcher outside the plant working the interchange. I'm not 100% certain but I think Sysco interchanged with Devco, not with CN directly, and Devco took the CN traffic the 1/4 mile or so to the CN yard.

#8 was a GE 80 tonner. It was built for DOSCO in 1958 and worked its entire life in this plant. It was likely scrapped on site after the mill shut down in 2001, if not before that. ' height='150' width='200' />
So when you got one in the lead you were fortunate. I got them as leaders 2 or 3 times. In this case the train was a second section of #14 running between Lillooet and Squamish. The first section no doubt did all the heavy lifting and likely ran with Locotrol-controlled remotes.

This was a pleasant chase for a couple of hours, although I do remember that because of the time of day the light was often not ideal. But, I'd love to be able to go back!' height='150' width='200' />
On this day that was definitely the case. I arrived at Bayview at 0655, which was a little later than I had planned but still early enough on this day. I soon learned that #384 was stopped on the hill in emergency and was setting up retainers before proceeding. Fifteen minutes later he came flying around the corner onto the Oakville Sub. That was the only eastbound around until #670 arrived and by then the clouds had rolled in. It definitely paid to get up with the sun! ' height='150' width='200' />
