CSX 2799 and CSX 2651 are seen here shoving into Sarnia Yard with 80+ cars they picked up from CN on a pleasant late winter day. This area is often tight with security from the nearby refineries, however during the COVID lockdowns there seemed to be a lack of human activity in the area, making it more comfortable to shoot trains.

Three VIA Rail RDC's are seen here at Walkerville (Windsor) waiting to take on passengers for the Memorial Cup, which was being held 4 miles down the tracks at the WFCU Centre. VIA shuttled passengers between here and the arena during the event using these RDC's. In the background VIA #76 can be seen reversing into the station after wyeing at Jefferson, a practice which will fade when VIA's new trainsets are in service.

Due to the Paul M. Tellier Tunnel being down in Sarnia because of a derailment, CN rerouted many trains through the Detroit River Tunnel in Windsor. Here we see CN X328 emerging from the tunnel behind CN 2108, CN 2116, CN 8802 and GT 4919. There were a group of railfans waiting for this train, and I remember getting a nasty sunburn as we waited for it.

CN 7280 and CN 4784 shove a cut of LPG tanks into storage down the former CASO main alongside Van de Water Yard. This would be one of the last movements along these rails and today a pedestrian walkway passes underneath this spot with only the far right track being active.

CSX 6547 and 6505 lead a 23 car local along Pulteney St. in Mooretown on their way back to Sarnia after switching Forge Hydrocarbons in Sombra and Lambton Generating in Courtright. The large Generating Station at Courtright is being dismantled and scrap is being shipped out by rail. CSX switches the place about 2-4 times a month and are currently running there Sunday afternoons.

Time is coming to a close for life on these rails, as within 3 weeks these rails would be abandoned and removed less than 2 years later. Today however, business carries on as usual as CN 5638 leads a 35 car train past MP 177 and through North Buxton, one of many small communities along the line.

After bringing 67 cars of interchange back from CN, CSX 6505 and 2757 are seen here crossing Clifford St. before ending their day near the engine house in the background. The CSX Sarnia Sub. has some new local power, in the form of two GP40-3's numbered 6505 and 6547 (6547 is in the background sitting between GP38-2's 2570, 2799 & 2561). GP38 variants have been the main local power here for CSX for decades, so having a couple of GP40's around is certainly interesting. There's also a new customer along the line, as CSX is shipping out scrap from Ontario Hydro's Lambton Generating Station in Courtright. There were 12 Aim Recycling gons in there today, and they are supposed to be switched 2/3 times a week.

CN 439 prepares to drop 21 cars in Chatham Yard on their way to Windsor via the CASO, only a couple of weeks before they switched over to the Chatham Sub. Most of the cars were BLE open top hoppers, I'm not sure what they were for but they were around Chatham from time to time during this period.

CN 1412 along with 6020 make up their train in Van de Water Yard before heading down the CASO on their way to London. I caught up with this train about an hour later near Essex seen <a href="http://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=31434"> here </a>.

After lifting a boxcar from a nearby warehouse, ETR 107 along with 105 shove a cut of gondolas into K-Scrap off of Russell St. on Windsor's west end. One of several cranes located at the scrap yard is seen at left, and a new spur can be seen under construction on the right heading into Sterling Fuels, which receives asphalt by rail on occasion.

These rails haven't seen a train since October 2 2013, however the municipality of Chatham-Kent - who had owned the land for years - recently sold the line to a numbered company out of Ottawa. There aren't too many details available publicly about this sale yet but we do know it's been sold. One can only speculate what the future holds for this property now that someone clearly has interest in it. Back when trains were running, we see CSX 2574 leading a 25 car local through town on their way back to Sarnia after switching SW CO-OP and Tupperville.

CN 7316 is seen here at Lambton Diesel partially cannibalized, looking like a parts engine. This is before the CN police station was built nearby, the workers there had no problem with me walking around with my camera as long as I stayed off the equipment.

The last regularly scheduled CN trains through the tunnel in Windsor were about a decade ago, having never photographed one here I didn't think I'd actually get the opportunity to do so again. That changed when the derailment occurred in Sarnia on June 28th, and I took advantage of every opportunity I could to catch those re-routes. Cutting the lawn? Groceries? Nah, those can wait, rare trains are far more important. Here we see CN 326 lead by 5484, 2541 and 8933 as they climb out of the tube on their way to home rails at Little Yard, and eventually London.

CN re-route train #320 is seen here behind CN 5796, 5410 and 2135 crawling past the former Ford yard just before crossing Rose-Ville Garden Drive. The old yard lead can be seen in the foreground, however there is another connection and today the yard is used to store cars for a local customer.
