CSX train D725 arriving at the Chatham depot, the conductor or brakeman is on the ground to line the switch into CP's Chatham yard where they will back in the train. CSX Canadian crews (three man crew) ran this D725 from Sarnia to Chatham (and return north) with CP power (usually two SD40-2's) as CSX's main way to get traffic to the states was via CP agreement from Chatham to Detroit. This lasted only from 2003-2006.

Yard units idle in Sarnia at sunrise, new power set is now up to four units with a pair of GP9RM's and GP38-2's. Nice to see the GP9's again as they are not as common now, they wont be around forever and the zebra stripes on the 7524 still look decent for a paint scheme from 30 years ago. Why they felt the needed a four unit set I'm not sure. CN 7052, CN 7016, IC 9607, CN 7524.

Heading west back to the states, IC SD40-2 6105 and IC SD70 1032 at Sarnia. It's too bad it wasn't a pair of black Illinois Central units but you cant go back and do this again..

CN 2791 ( ex Citirail) trails as the rear DPU unit on eastbound U763 unit tank train, paused briefly at the VIA station at Sarnia, a nice breeze had the Canadian flag out on this fine Canada Day.

Westbound CN freight at Sarnia with new SD70ACe locomotives for Ferromex in Mexico, built by GMD at the London, ON plant. Consist included CN SD60F 5547, CN SD40-2W 5260 and SD70ACe's 4006,4001,4007,4003,4013,40014,4002.

VIA 84 waiting to depart Sarnia with F40's 6408 and 6429 in push/pull set up. This sort of set up was unheard of on this run to Sarnia in the past and all VIA trains terminating in Sarnia were forced to wye the trainset before they could do the return run to Toronto, now with enough of the Siemens charger sets available two units can be spared for this run, however most of 84/87's trains are now all Siemens sets and anything else will only get harder to get.

A pair of GMD-1's and a GP9RM (CN 1437, 1412 and 7029) head south on CN's St. Clair Industrial spur a 15 mile spur extending from Sarnia yard south to service petrochemical, fertilizer, ethanol and rail car repair customers in Sarnia, Corunna, Mooretown and Courtright.

Its 6:30am and the morning sun is just coming up as yard power sets await the start of another day at Sarnia, CN 4785 and BNSF 2090, tucked in behind just barely visible is VIPX SW1200 1007 (out of service, sold to LDS?) on another track is CN 7521 with BNSF 2968 and CN 4770.

Are you pushing or are you pulling? In this case this is the rear DPU unit on a westbound unit potash train #731 heading into the tunnel at Sarnia, Lead units were CN 2976 and CN 3330 and rear DPU unit CN 3945.

The searchlight signals on the signal bridge for the 4th track were recently removed although the track itself was taken out a few years ago now.

A pair of zebras in the summer heat, CN 5254 has a westbound auto rack train (possibly 271) stopped for a signal at the VIA station in Sarnia. The Canadian AC is on full with the front nose door left open as temps were at their highest for the day reaching 33 degrees and feeling like 40 with the humidex, HOT!

Before going to Ontario Southland Railway the F's were employed by the GEXR, 1400 and 1401 at the shop in Goderich, I don't think they ran in a pair like this very often on GEXR as there was usually another unit on one end or the other leaving the F's in the middle of the consist. They didn't last all that long on GEXR and both went out of service before OSR picked them up.

CN SD40-2W 5351 with the daily westbound roadrailer train 145 pauses at the station at Sarnia, roadrailer 145 and eastbound counterpart 144 would often meet at Sarnia for crew changes.

VIA train 84 at Sarnia with P42's 904 and 915 on the rear, with the introduction of more new charger trainsets VIA has a surplus of locomotives and is now running with a unit on each end instead of having to wye the trains at Sarnia.

CN SD50AF 5502 at Sarnia with the triple crown roadrailer train #145, 5502 was the former 9902 the patch out number is clearly visible. The 9900 series units were the precursor to the following order of the SD60F.

The daily CSX interchange train seen here about to enter the "south" interchange tracks on CSX's Sarnia Subdivision, the power will run around its cars before making the connection to CN's St. Clair River Industrial spur and into CN's large yard at Sarnia, cars are dropped in the CN yard, new ones picked up and return back to CSX rails, this is the only way for CSX to get it's traffic to and from Sarnia as it's Canadian operations are isolated from the rest of the network. Power is locally assigned GP38-2's 2672 and 2690 and ex Chessie caboose 900032. The GP38's and caboose are no longer used in Sarnia.

CN SD70M-2 8900 leads train 122 past the station at Sarnia and under the signal bridge, the signals and bridge were installed when the new St. Clair tunnel was opened in 1995 allowing for seamless movements of double stack and over height cars to pass beneath the St. Clair river as seen in this train.

Canadian Pacific slug 1024 and GP9U 1548 light engines in Toronto back in 2009, I like the wood covering the windows on 1024... talk about cheap but these were neat looking slugs.
