After a Dauphin crew built the train, a Winnipeg crew hops on to take it south. As the conductor and trainee take off handbrakes the engineer sets up the units for the late evening departure.

CN 2434 leads an empty grain train on CN's Prairie North Line spotting elevators the whole trip. CN 2434 now stored was known for the 'No Emergency Brake Valve' stencil slapped onto its nose during the original purge of the dash 8's in early 2020.

BCOL 4642 kicks up fresh powder while blasting through rural Ontario on its way to Toronto. After this crossing, there was nothing but trees and frozen lakes for around 60 miles showing the amount of untouched bush there is in Northwestern Ontario.

While the heritage units will still new they were more enjoyable to shoot compared to now caked-in road grime. When 3023 was still somewhat new it was tied down on an oil train heading west when Dauphin was out of crews. I took advantage of this and attempted a shot I always wanted. An enjoyable calm evening trackside while watching movies and letting my camera do its thing helped teach me this technique.

BCOL 4650 and BCOL 4652 lead A403 into Melville just after the sun had set. Nothing more rewarding than pulling past this crossing and knowing you will be going home after you trade off with the new crew.

CN 2436 led Q186 through Uno in the summer of 2021, with this being the beginning of the end for some of these units I spent as much time as I could documenting them, including hiking through the valley and up the hill for this shot.

CN 2519 leads Via 2 towards Winnipeg after being added in Edmonton due to locomotive issues. 2519 was replaced by another F40PH in Winnipeg to continue the trip to Toronto

Being too young, without a driver's license, and living in an urban area, my archive of GMD-1s is fairly small. Any remaining opportunity I have to shoot one I take full advantage of, CN 1440 being one of them. In 2020, CN retired and sold off its entire GMD-1 fleet as well as some other locomotives such as a few C40-8 variants and yard power. CN sold 1440 to SSR (Stewart Southern) who would slowly strip it down for parts to use on their own locomotives and/or sell. Only a few weeks after this photo was taken the unit would be stripped to nothing and scrapped. Although it was disappointing to see it go, the shot I managed is more than enough to keep me happy

CN 2503 winds through the valleys along the Togo subdivision passing an old abandoned elevator in Runnymede SK. A few days later a large snow dump blanketed the area making this location more appealing and removing the "brown season" throughout the area. With Covid being in full swing finding trains on the subdivision was getting harder and harder so any shot I could get was worth it

On its first revenue service rocking its new paint, CN 3008 led U735 toward Buderheim AB. The entire set came to Winnipeg the day earlier on Q10521 14 where they all went in different directions to show off the newly painted fleet. The train left Winnipeg in the dark and arrived in Dauphin MB as the sun started to come up making a memorable chase through the scenic Togo subdivision and being the first photos of the unit in service

An unexpected sight coming home from a shopping trip in Brandon was CEFX 1002 heading west out of Minnedosa with grain empties. This train was a single unit that used a manned helper on the tail end coming out of Minnedosa because of the intense grades. While spotting the elevator in Shoal Lake the engineer trainee was honing his skills with the constant push-pull movements.
