Comments on: L56831 09 departing Kitchener for Stratford with GTW 4623, CN 4716, and CN 9555 leading the way of their 37 car train. Definitely didn’t have a blue GP9R leading on the 2026 bingo card!

GTW 4623 has the same build year (1957) as the GTW caboose that’s sitting beside the tracks in St. Mary’s. A little reunion for them when 4623 heads west of Stratford.

This was also why I asked the question on Dean Brown/Paul Chapman’s post and John F’s post on the GTW units a few weeks ago. We had a lively discussion on how GTW GP9′s ended up on local service in Ontario despite their relative popularity on through passenger trains in the mid 70′s. Plus the “laser train” era.

John, GTW 4616 has been assigned to Oshawa since April. It was the unit use don the RERA move from Lincolnville. It is in CN paint. Still there today according to trace.

There’s a handful of these in southern Ontario at the moment. 4623, 4616 in CN paint, and LDSX 4620 assigned to GIO Tillsonburg.

Lucky, it arrived in Montreal this past winter but never worked on anything here.
