Comments on: Remote Control equipped SW900 No. 85 (GMD December 1959) is shown against the back drop of one of the Hamilton landmark’s massive mill structures painted in classic Stelco olive green. Since acquiring the massive complex most of the activity by new owner has involved painting everything that doesn’t move with a coat of USS blue. Sadly, steel making is but a memory. No. 85??

Didn't notice at first - note the converted friction bearing trucks. Converted friction bearing trucks were subsequently banned from Interchange, mostly due to impeded access by Hot Box detectors.

Keith - you are my good luck charm. I haven't photographed a Stelco unit since 2011 - and after you posted your photo, I found this on Monday: http://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=16419

Did some research. According to the 2014 Trackside Guide, No. 85 is still in the employ of USS at their Nanticoke (Haldimand) facility.

Most recently I've shot #90 (in March 2011, repainted in yellow) and #84 (repainted, in January 2014). In April 2011 one engine was shipped out, old number painted over, and paper numbers put in the cab of '412' - I do not recall what the original number for this one was but it was in the orange scheme.
