Quebec North Shore and Labrador GP9 #169 is seen near Toronto Union Station in July of 1982. There is an interesting mix of old railroad structures and city skyline in the background. All changed today.

A westbound potash train crosses Emery Creek just outside the Provincial Park with the same name. CP was running a mixture of cars to haul the potash, not the solid sets of Canpotex round hoppers that would be seen on CN.

Marked as "Bayview E" as that was how I listed photo locations back then; this train is just east of the Junction (and the walkbridge). Nowadays the location is known as "Snake". Some interesting power on this train, CN 2101 (HR616), CN 2032 (C-630M) and CN 3548 (C-424..originally 2548) seen on a nice summer afternoon.

After working CN 546 at Oshawa, I decided to venture out to the interchange track where CP 5755 sits silently, her fate sealed with the scrapper at K&K recycling in Pickering. Built in London, Ontario by General Motors Diesel Division of Canada in 1975 for the CPR on frame A3351, she has lived a long service life of 43 years. Taken on CN property by a CN employee with PPE gear on.

Majestic
Background or foreground, take your pick. Both the mountains and the locomotive are majestic in their own right.
CN 6015 continues to look great on its perch just west of the VIA station in Jasper, AB. The pigeons have taken up residence inside various openings in and around the cab, and a small tree is growing out the top of the tender right behind the cab roof.
Another beauty day during my recent stay in Jasper. :-)

In somewhat of a response to Glenn Cherry's recent submission showing TRRY 1859 rolling along trackage that was newly laid in 1997 and the canal bridges in the background, I decided to dig up a shot of a train on that former lift-style Bridge 20. Unfortunately back then it was dicey at best to try and drive over bridge 21 to give chase, but rather follow the train on foot. And that was no piece of cake either. I did manage one shot on each side of the bridge plus this image taken as it is crossing westbound. But back then, with no zoom lens available, this was as good as it got. Pictured is CN 7166, returning to Port Colborne from Nickel, as indicated in an old CN timetable. The switcher is an SW8, built 1951 and whole series gone by 1989. I must have looked like some sort of deranged nut running around out there on a HOT day, but, well, we all have our weird habits.:o)

After cutting the lawn for several hours, I heard the scanner go off and a train get clearance to Desjardins. I decided to go check it out and just missed it in Carlisle but caught a glimpse of blue so I headed south. Lucky me, CP 246 is carrying another SD40-2 but today it's in perfect sun. The power is CP 8926 with CP 8790 hauling a nice clean Iowa, Chicago and Eastern (ICE) 6213 as it heads under highway 6 and Newman Road on its way down the Hamilton Sub.

After getting word of transformers being moved for Hydro One the previous day, I headed down to Arkell to see what was going on. Finding OSR SW1200RSu 1210 sitting with two depressed center flats, one already unloaded (one transformer just behind me). Today's job was to unload the second transformer. Two small conveyor belts were placed under the transformer and on the flatbed truck. Slowly the load was shifted from rail-to-road, and the job was done. I noticed the flatcar behind the unit had an old clearance card on it from the Illinois Central Railway, meaning this card was approximately 20+ years old. A summer day in 1965 finds CNR big hook 50008 all steamed up, likely for Belleville Railway days which occuredlate June/early July. 50008 is a Bucyrus Erie, 250 ton crane, built 1946 with serial number 36210. Supplying the coal is tender 51585, and out front is boom tender 60033. According to Bruce's notes this was the last steam big hook on the CNR roster, and would be converted to diesel in the near future. Note two plows; CNR 55369, CNR 55396, and at least 3 flangerss visible in the yard. Thanks to Paul O'Shell for information on this crane, as well as MOW equipment in the rest of Bruce's collection.
