It's not the Stairway to Heaven but it sure was an enjoyable climb every time I went up into the dome level of VIA 8515 Skyline on VIA #693. It's 05:38 and the train is 3 hours & 20 minutes (67 miles) south of Churchill, MB. There's no one else in the Skyline car but me and a VIA on-board attendant who was making a fresh carafe of coffee. A fresh cooked breakfast is still an hour and a half away. There's not much to look at outside as we rumble north, but it's amazing how interesting every mile of barren, tree pegged tundra and mirror like lakes can be from this elevated vantage point.

After CP 242 came over the border into Windsor, they shoved the train into Windsor Yard and tied down the power. Fortunately they left it out where it was reasonably "shootable". KCS SD70ACe #4051 adds a nice bit of color to the normal CP red that usually occupies the ready track here.

Bringing up the rear on today's CP Train #516 are 5 CP Angus cabooses being moved for use elsewhere on the system. Trains just don't seem right not having a waycar on them.

VIA 6449 leads VIA 67 westwards about twenty minutes before sunset. This scene will change drastically very soon, with CN's main line being relocated to the left of the photo, almost for sure as soon as this year.

I believe this was taken after a day at the CNE and we were waiting for the eastbound GO Train. The Budds are westbound and you can see the old footbridge in the background. I didn't know the 6110 was anything special as Budd Cars go but Jim Blunt informed me that "Via 6110 was the original Budd demonstrator complete with a different truck and outboard disk brakes. One of a kind." Thanks Jim.

Delaware & Hudson's "Napierville Junction" (NJ) train heads south through LaSalle,exercising trackage rights on CP to Delson where it will regain home rails towards Rouses Point, NY. Owned by Guilford at the time, this train had a Maine Central caboose!

The D&H was placed into bankruptcy protection in 1988 and purchased by CP in 1991.

After filming this pair a few days earlier on CP 143 at Midnight, I was more than happy to hear this pair was back on 142 on a beautiful Fall day.

CP 142 comes around the bend at Lovekin with a Bluebird CEFX on point, and a UP SD70M trailing. (11:45)

CNR 6218 is readied on the service tracks at Spadina roundhouse on the morning of September 20, 1970. Note the fire hydrant and hose, likely used to fill the 11,600 gallon tender. Today she will lead a UCRS fan trip from Union Station - Guelph - Caledonia - Hamilton and return. Off to the right, one of the coach yard switchers, MLW S13 8522, idles away waiting to be called to duty. Built in 1959 a the last of a 23 unit order, and the highest numbered of the 8500-series, it will be retired in 1990.<br><br>At upper left the Spadina Avenue overpass spans the numerous tracks below. At upper right, the top of the Steele-Briggs Seed Co. building can be seen at the corner of Spadina Ave and Front St. The building was originally constructed in 1913 for Steele-Briggs Seed Company to centralize it's operations under one roof. I cannot recall how many times I slithered into the GM Glendale Av plant property trying to get a shot of this unit. More times than I can count. Finally; got this one so-so image thru a fence, and I never saw the unit again.
This is GMDH3 #2128, built in January of 1960, a demonstrator. It even went overseas to get attention but never did drum up any sales. It was on trial as #275 in various localities until September of 1963 it went to McKinnon Industries, which later became General Motors plant that we know down by the Welland Canal. In 1992 it was sold to South Simcoe Railway up in Tottenham. It again wore #275 and was now painted a dull black. Then became surplus, and in my mind it was foolish to let it go. The unit now calls home at South Michigan Railroad Society, out of Clinton, Michigan.
For some strange reason I have not been able to find any photos of it wearing its GM colours at the plant. Odd, because it was there nearly 30 years. Before and after photos are out there though. One of a kind. Maybe someone can steer me to where there are examples on the internet.

The last SOO SD60 #6027 poses at the shop's west end tracks with a few of the remaining SD40-2's at the yard. Does anyone know it's current whereabouts as it was shipped out this summer with engine damage to possibly be rebuilt into a 6300 series loco.

In 1872 what became the Grand Trunk pushed thru the little community of Ainsleyville, Ontario and the town name after was changed for reasons unknown to me to Brussels.
This little station served the line for many years; eventually it was moved to become the clubhouse for the town lawn bowling group. I remember visiting and the station was painted red. Now, it has become the Optimist Club office and thankfully not altered, sits in quiet retirement.
Location is on road 12 on the north-east edge of town.
