Sometimes you just get lucky. I checked ATCS and saw a southbound lined and decided, what the heck let's find a nice spring shot. I set up around Concession 7 near Carlisle and around the bend comes a suprise UP/CSX pair, so naturally, I followed it for a bit. Arriving at the bottom of the hill passing signs of Spring, 143's about to enter the CTC at Desjardins.

The Green Goblin frenzy has ended...
CN 580 (and 581) might have been the most popular train all summer, with BNSF 2098 headlining the set and the likes of CN 9547, 4713, and 4791 acting as supporting characters. But of course, in early June when it first arrived, we didn't know it would last that long. On one of its first trips along the Hagersville sub, BNSF 2098 & CN 9547 cut through the rolling hills north of Onondaga ON with 11 loads from CGC.

CP 8781 positively gleams as it approaches Valois Station leading CP 133 (CP 8132 is mid-train). This edition of CP 133 is 12,600 feet long, weighs in at 9,400 tons and will be good to do 60 MPH on its way to Smiths Falls.

LRC locomotive Via 6913 is about to cross Colbourne St. as it leads four coaches out of London, ON and becomes the first train to pass the newly commissioned CTC signal 774 at McLeod on this cold, drizzly and overcast day in December of 1982.

TTC PCC 4756 (A14-class, secondhand from Kansas City MO) is paused at the light before making the right turn onto Weston Road for the short jaunt up to <a href=http://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=34071
><b>Keele Loop</b></a>. Either the streetcar is broken down or the operator has hopped off to attend to something, but it has caused traffic to back up coming out of the railway underpass (CN Weston Sub & CP MacTier Sub) and motorists are diverting into the right lane to get by.
<br><br>
On top of the underpass are a few freight cars (including a green-door double-door CN or DW&P lumber service boxcar), probably overflow from the nearby CN West Toronto yards. Webster & Sons Ltd Building Materials had a siding just to the north, one of many small industries in The Junction area to receive rail service.

TTC 4756, originally built as Kansas City 749 by St. Louis Car Co. in 1946 and acquired secondhand by Toronto in late 1957, was retired by the TTC in 1976 and was part of a group of PCC's sold to SEPTA in Philadelphia as their 2242. They were purchased to replace some of the cars SEPTA had recently lost in a carhouse fire, but were in poor shape and only lasted a few years in service for their third owner.

This trackmobile and what appears to be some components from their bridge replacement unit were hiding behind Western Mechanical's plant. This spur was built in 2005 to serve a composite lumber plant that only lasted a couple of years. I didn't think the spur was in use.

Marcus Stevens recently posted a "high line" image at Lake Louise; a nice afternoon shot (#48203) and that had me dig up an image from a visit there last fall. The RMRX, behind 8018 and 8911 was to pick up around 0845hrs passengers who had overnighted at Lake Louise.
Seemed like a decent plan, so we are out of our hotel in time. But there is a CP eastbound blocking the way at the station. So, we grabbed a few shots of CP 8887 in and out of morning sun and a half hour or so later the bus came into the Lake Louise station lot, people got off and went over looking for the Rocky Mountain train. It was a chilly morning, and the crowd huddled around waiting for the RMRtour to show up; but as it is single track east of the station, the RMR train had to pull up on the highline to let the CP eastbound go. Then, after it departed, back up and roll down in front of the station so passengers could board. All this took more than an hour. I don't know why, but it made me chuckle that the "red carpet" was rolled out for the people to board the train in 'elegance' I guess you could call it.
To me, it is just another train ride, although extravagant, I must admit, but as most passengers, not on time. :o)
The image is of the CP leaving, CP 8529 end of train unit; and the sunrise was right over the Rocky Mountaineer engines, making for a rather tough image.

Environment Canada records show that the coldest temperature ever recorded at Toronto's Pearson airport was -31.3 °C on January 4, 1981. It might have been a few ticks warmer here at Rouge Park along the Lakefront east of Toronto where 4 frozen railfans from Cleveland started the day instead of being home to watch the Browns lose their best shot at the Super Bowl on a play now famously known as Red-Right 88. We had spent the night in Toronto and it was a real surprise that the vinyl seats our Chevy Nova didn't crack. But it did fire up pretty strong. The wind off the frozen lake here was brutal but we got a lot of good shots that weekend.
