A CPKC coal train waiting to get the light in Boston Bar on the CN Yale Sub. A CN intermodal had just passed with the addition of a fresh crew, and this train was presumably doing the same, with a CPKC crew change van waiting off to the side.

CN 3875 stopped for a crew change which gave me a good chance to photograph this one! The weather could not have been better, at 12 degrees and no wind, especially because I had come from up north by Prince George, which had been -20 the previous day! Here is a video of this train for a different perspective.

CN 3222 leads a long intermodal train through Lytton at the start of the Fraser Canyon. CN and CPKC both run through the canyon, and they have agreed to directional running, so CN and CPKC trains can be seen on either of the two lines. This also reduces the need for ridiculously long sidings.

CN was doing doing some track maintenance at the time of the photo, and this MOW train had been making a few appearances along the subdivision. I had heard a whistle in the distance, and was fully expecting one of the daily sand or LPG trains to come by. Caught me a bit off guard, but worked out in my favor!

A rather dirty coal empty glides through the Kootenay National Park on a warm May morning at 7:00. This train is the most common on the CPKC Windermere sub, and typically consists of a 1x1x1 locomotive consist. This train is heading down to Cranbrook to get loaded and then will likely head back up the subdivision towards the unloading facility in Vancouver.

Previously owned by Louis Dreyfus, this locomotive is used for switching grain cars around in the small Dawson Creek yard. Mighty Peace is now written on the side. Also, the building to the left is the shed in which the locomotive is kept.

CN 8328 leads a heavy sand train north to Fort St. John. This was the longest train I have ever seen, at 830 axels, and also two mid remotes! The train was broken up into two parts, one half was sand, and the other half being LPG. Note the heavy smoke in the air.

CN 2969 grinding up the steep grade to the summit of the Pine Pass towards Prince George with A47521 in tow. This train is just emerging out of the only tunnel on this line, which goes underneath the highway 97. In a few miles, this train will pass Azouzetta Lake.

CN A47521 rounds the curve by Bijoux Falls, just over the summit of the Pine Pass. This train is headed towards Prince George in some great fall colors. To get to this location, a 8-10 minute hike is required, up very steep and wet rocks/logs, and then on top of that, I was standing up on a large rock cut that overlooked the tracks, and the top of the falls, which go down quite a ways on this side of the tracks. A good stop!

CPKC 9373 leads an eastbound empty coal train through the CPKC Shuswap Sub. At the time of this photo, trains went by every 12 minutes, equaling about 60 trains per day.
