The climb up the Niagara Escarpment almost complete, extra 8921 west rounds the curve at Campbellville passing the famed ponds, a setting for many rail photographers through the years. With extra flags near taut in the wind, CNR GMD1s 1915, 1914 round a curve near Burnt River during a runpast on the UCRS Toronto - Haliburton fall colour excursion of September 1963. This pair of <a href=https://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=53688>diesels took over at Lindsay</a> for U-2-e class CNR 6167, hauling the excursion <a href=https://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=38480>up to Haliburton, and return.</a> One of four runpasts held on that trip, another can be seen <a href=https://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=17673>here at Kinmount.</a><br><br><i>Scan and editing by Jacob Patterson. Toronto - Windsor train 29 takes the switch onto the Dundas Subdivision at Bayview Junction, bypassing Hamilton. Passenger trains on the Dundas Sub with a scheduled stop at Hamilton were required to make a reverse move into or out of Hamilton, depending on their direction of travel. This operation can be seen shortly before this image, <a href=https://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=52960>with train 77 headed to</a> CN's James Street station, and then continuing west <a href=https://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=53125>after having backed out to Bayview.</a><br><br><i>John Freyseng Photo, Jacob Patterson Collection Slide.</i>

A pair of MLWs let out a little smoke as they climb the grade at Puslinch handling an extra westbound to London. Originally named Schaw when constructed circa 1879, the station would be renamed Puslinch by the 1920s, and demolished in 1966.<br><br><i>Scan and editing by Jacob Patterson.</i>

A westbound extra descends the grade along the Halton Sub just west of mile 30 at side road 10. Evidence of recent upgrades can be seen in the surrounding landscape as the former Milton Subdivision branch line became CN's westerly mainline out of the GTA. Leading the train today is GO Transit GP40TC 607, the highest numbered of eight units numbered 600 through 607, which were broken in hauling CN freight trains over the course of a few months. The units would have their paintjobs modified to <a href=https://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=15912>official GO Transit colours</a> by April 1967 for final equipment testing before the start of service on Tuesday, May 23, 1967.<br><br><i>John Freyseng Photo, Jacob Patterson Collection.</i>

Looking back from the trailing unit, CNR GMD-1 1914, the UCRS excursion from Toronto Union Station to Haliburton makes its way along Victoria Avenue at Bond Street in the heart of Lindsay. A westbound transfer heads towards the east approach to Union Station with traffic for various industries in the Parkdale neighbourhood along the Weston Sub. Stock cars and reefers for the stock yards and meat packing plants in the Keele and St. Clair area, and a double deck auto carrier for CN's <a href=https://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=45492>Car-Go-Rail</a> yard at Brock Avenue. Note the double deck stock car for pigs or other small stock. The train director at Scott Street Tower will line the movement through the Union Station bypass tracks, and the train director at John Street Tower will line it onto the Weston Sub.<br><br><i>Scan and editing by Jacob Patterson.</i>

CPR 8481 and its consist of train 303, the boat train, have been turned and spotted at the main station, closing out the second last summer of the boat train. Canadian Pacific's boat train operated June through September from Port McNicoll to Toronto and return on Wednesdays and Saturdays to meet steam ships <i>Assinaboia</> and <i>Keewatin,</i> which operated between Port Arthur/Fort William and Port McNicoll. Budd cars from train 632 (now under an unknown deadhead number) is seen departing Stouffville for Spadina near the end of August, 1982. In the coming days trains 631/632 will make their final runs on Friday, September 3, 1982, with GO Transit assuming operations the following Tuesday, September 7. London-bound Extra 8105 west cruises through Killean, a few miles east of Galt. Having just crossed Side Road 10 South, the train is seen passing the original location of Killean station and siding at mile 51.97 Galt Sub. <br><br>Originally named Leslie until renaming in the early 1920s, the <a href=https://img.puslinchtoday.ca/2015/rail/killean-station.jpg>1879 station was demolished</a> during the mid-1960s and the siding <a href=https://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=10994>moved west to mile 55.4.</a><br><br><i>John Freyseng Photo, Jacob Patterson Collection slide.</i>

CPR 7060 leads an eastbound transfer from Parkdale Yard up to Leaside, taking orders at Don Station. With its two-position train order signal, showing only proceed and stop, the yellow flag (lantern by night) has been hung beneath the order board allowing the orders to be handed off on the fly. A great book, "OS Don" by John Mellow, details operations around this station very well. Get your copy through the Bytown Railway Society.<br><br>Looking across the Don River, we can see the Lever Brothers' Soap Factory, built in the 1940s and currently under demolition after failed heritage adaptive reuse petitioning, and farther beyond, the gasometers at Consumers Gas Station B. Station B closed by 1956, with the gasometers being demolished in 1969.
