About Kevin Flood
I am from Kitchener, ON and have been photographing trains since 2000. I started with a Blacks point and shoot film camera then switched to digital in 2004/2005. I got my first DSLR in July 2007, and five years later, upgraded my camera to what I'm using currently - a Canon 60D.

![The WCR tourist/market train heads south back to the Farmer's Market after its 15:00 stop at Elmira. I just discovered this crossing for this shot, and I love the farm-like scene here combined with WCR's beautifully restored and repainted GMD-1 (ex CN 1437). More information about the WCR can be found here: https://waterloocentralrailway.com/.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/16739_WCR1012_2024-07-18-200x150.jpg)

![When we were living in the Vancouver area, I really enjoyed this spot in New Westminster. It was a packed scene. The train line through here is super busy with numerous transfer trains passing through including BNSF, CPKC, CN and SRY. On a beautiful Vancouver summer day, a BNSF transfer train from Thornton Yard in Surrey is heading to SRY's Trapp Yard. I saw this train from the Skytrain about to cross the Fraser River but had no idea whether it was going north or south on the other side of the river. Spending time with family, and my wife meeting with an old colleague, I heard bells ringing and sure enough it was the BNSF transfer heading through. We were steps from the tracks so I naturally brought my camera. I can't stop talking about this place. Stuff for the family and numerous trains right there. There's a boardwalk, park, and children's play area adjacent to the tracks. This was the first of three SB trains I caught, including SRY and CN to follow.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/14668_BNSF3965_2023-07-13-200x150.jpg)

![On the morning of July 3, 2024, CN 540 had little work to do at the CN/CP interchange in Kitchener. All the cars in the yard was what is pictured. It was a quick lift of these cars and they headed back to the Guelph Sub. Power was CN 4732-GTW 6420-BNSF 2317 for the northbound run.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/16530_BNSF2317_2024-07-03-200x150.jpg)

![Following closely behind CPKC 137 (but not close enough as I really had to leave!), what appears to be the Hagey Job (no idea of symbol these days), heads into Wolverton at Reidsville (just east of Ayr, ON) with a trio of GP38-2s: recently repainted 3024, followed by 3087 and 3055. Thankfully not a single Eco locomotive, as I don't find them photogenic. CPKC 238 was rotting at Wolverton for hours having engine issues with the their leader, KCSM 4558. After this train got into Wolverton, they ran light to Galt to wye their power so that 8174 could lead. I am not sure if the train actually left Wolverton this day as I saw a picture of 238 with 8174E from the following day. No idea! It's just typical CPKC shenanigans.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/16516_CP3024_2024-06-27-200x150.jpg)

![In August 2011, a surveyor looks on as VIA 84 eases towards its station stop at Kitchener with VIA 6408 in a Coors Light wrap. This location is now Kitchener West, where the Guelph Sub crosses King St. and is the junction with the Huron Park Spur (the tracks curving out in the foreground). In this photo, there is evidence of the early stages of redevelopment of this area to its current state, including the staging tracks of the GO trains (at right of photo). Later that year, GO trains would begin running as far west as Kitchener. You can also see the grade of the line towards present day station sign Sturm. It's fascinating how much Kitchener-Waterloo has changed since I was a kid.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/11509_VIA6408_2011-08-02_240602-200x150.jpg)

![CN L568 begins its journey west towards Stratford with a small train and an eclectic lash-up, almost representing Google colours, as it so happens to be passing by the Google building. Power was GTW 6420-BNSF 2926-BNSF 2090. The latter two units were assigned to the Kitchener pool for over three months at the time of this image. This power set is now split up as many of the local guys are aware. Immediately after this power was sent back to Toronto and replaced with new power, a trove of railfans flocked to the Guelph Sub west of Kitchener for a trio of GP9s leading 568 on May 24. If I'm not mistaken, BNSF 2090 is on CN 580 out of Brantford, and BNSF 2926 went away on CN 421 to an unknown destination on May 30. I'm not sure where the GTW 6420 is now. BNSF 2098 may be next to roam the Guelph Sub - time will tell.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/15935_GTW6420_2024-05-07-200x150.jpg)

![What is likely the London Pick-up at the time, CP 5421 west heads through Ayr with a clean dual flags SD40-2 leading another SD40-2. This type of power was a regular occurrence at the time, especially on this particular train, which quite often saw a pair of SD40-2s (F/R). Interesting rolling stock on this train as well.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/16000_CP5421_2005-07-04-200x150.jpg)

![CN 502 is pictured beginning its journey across the Hagersville Sub crossing Colborne St. E. in Cainsville. Power was rebuilt CN 3335 and CN 8102. Anyone know what 3335 was rebuilt from? Apparently, the OSR F units were around at this time as well. What seemed like a quiet day for trains, was apparently quite fruitful.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/15859_CN3335_2024-04-26-200x150.jpg)

![KCS leaders are really starting to infiltrate the CP system now with CP and KCS power being more and more mixed across North America. CPKC 134 is another example of the sign of the times. After being held at Nissouri for hours, and waiting for 231 and 135 to clear, it finally was on the move to Toronto, not wasting any time, and not stopping at Wolverton for work. It is pictured storming through Drumbo, ON on April 26, 2024. The trailing unit was CP heritage unit 7013.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/15916-200x150.jpg)

![On Easter 2024, CPKC 239 entered Wolverton at around 14:15 with a very short train and KCS 4842-KCS 4582 for power. I’m not sure if 239 typically does work at Wolverton, but I had a hunch that based on its size this day it would. Apparently, a 331 empty grain train terminated there earlier. The trains were merged and the power from 331 (CP 8004) was added onto the consist. Leaving Wolverton this train was much longer, including the cars from 239, the large cut of grain cars from 331, and some more mixed freight at the tailend.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/15693_CP8004_2024-03-31-200x150.jpg)

![Twelve years ago today, the westbound mid-day VIA – VIA 85 was captured passing through Breslau, ON, just east of Kitchener. Although the VIA looks different, the weather that year was very similar: lacklustre in terms of snow and above-seasonal temperatures most of the time. This was the train that replaced the Toronto – Chicago Amtrak “International”. Obviously, the Amtrak was much more exciting than a 2-car VIA train. Nonetheless, it is a record of the time. I’m not sure how much longer we will be able to see F40PHs and stainless-steel coaches on the Quebec City-Windsor corridor with the new Siemens trainsets coming online.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/14843_VIA6453_2012-03-07-200x150.jpg)

![With a short train in tow and little work in Kitchener, CN 568 heads west through Baden, ON at around 13:30 on a nice, sunny, winter day. Power was BNSF 2090-BNSF 2926-CN 7521. It would switch Stratford briefly before carrying on to HCL in London. It is neat to see this kind of power on the Guelph Sub in southern Ontario; it is something more typical of New Westminster, BC (and of course, the U.S.).](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/15386_BNSF2090_2024-02-06-200x150.jpg)

![On a typical snowless January day in Hamilton, ON, CN 3236 is pictured leading a short, extra empty grain train with factory-fresh CN hoppers. During this time, CN ran a number of these extras. They were neat because they were unit trains, all the cars were brand-new, and all CN. Unfortunately, this one was shorter than some of the others that ran.](http://www.railpictures.ca/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/12471_CN3236_2021-01-09-200x150.jpg)
