With a friendly wave from a fellow crew member, an eastbound Canadian Pacific train begins to accelerate over the Hespeler Road crossing in Cambridge, Ontario on the Waterloo Subdivision. CP AC4400CW 9561 and leased CEFX AC4400CW 1042 would eventually bring a cut of newly loaded auto racks to their awaiting main line train at Galt, before heading east to Toronto.

With the new Wolverton, Ontario yard under construction, CP AC4400CW 9647 leads train 245 as it accelerates westward out of Wolverton siding with three leased locomotives of various paint schemes trailing. Note, at this time, Wolverton was not CTC yet and the new yard was in the beginning stages of being constructed.

Light power, Canadian Pacific GP38-2’s 3057 and 3038, both still in their duel flags paint scheme, are seen returning to Galt, Ontario as they trundle along beside busy King Street East in Kitchener on the Waterloo Subdivision. The crew has just set-off traffic with the Goderich-Exeter Railway (GEXR) at Kitchener at the interchange between the two companies.

The last Canadian Pacific “red barn” I ever photographed leads a westbound freight approaching the Orrs Lake mileboard west of Galt, Ontario on a stunning fall day. CP 9001 was in the final SD40-2F group to be retired from the active roster during 2016.

A veteran conductor on a westbound CN train comes down from his chair to confirm the approaching signal at Paris West, Ontario on the Dundas Subdivision as the high afternoon sun blazes down on his train. The elephant style consist includes; 5680/ 5738/ 2588.

In September 2011, my wife and I headed east for our honeymoon. With ample time on our side, I managed to visit several locations that I had only seen through other photographer’s images. We both discovered that Halifax can certainly be a challenging city to photograph rail operations, while in the end the few trains I shot were worth the effort as it gave me a different perspective of Canadian railroading. CN SD40-2(W) 5339, which was still painted in the CNNA scheme, is seen setting-off priority loaded container traffic that had just arrived off a westbound train at a container facility located nearby CN’s Rockingham yard.

We both discovered that Halifax can certainly be a challenging city to photograph rail operations, while in the end the few trains I shot were worth the effort as it gave me a different perspective of Canadian railroading. VIA Rail F40PH-2 6440 and a sister lead the westbound “Ocean” through CN’s Rockingham yard. This train had quietly snuck up on me, so I had to make do with the location. This was the first and only “Ocean” train that I’ve ever photographed.
