It was a cold winter morning in Southern Ontario when a Denver & Rio Grande Western tunnel motor (albeit patched, but still in full D&RGW colours) was due to head back out on a freight, which had came in on an eastbound the previous night at CN's MacMillan Yard. Having arrived at the station dark and early in the morning (06:30 hrs) in hopes of catching it before my morning train to Toronto, it became a waiting game as various CN freights juggled track time with the 4 morning GO trains and VIA. All the while text messages between people in the know were exchanged, and it was determined it was going to be going out on #391 or possibly #399, but #391 came and went with only a UP SD70M trailing.

At 07:59 a decision had to be made, and the photographer reluctantly stayed on the cold snowy platform as the last GO train to Toronto pulled out of the station without him. Unheated platform waiting shelters are very ineffective in the cold, but there wasn't much choice for one not wanting to stray too far from the tracks - lest his pray show up while he was waiting in the station with no clear line of sight, or up the street buying some warm pizza at Gusto's.

Finally, a headlight poked up on the snowy horizon, and back out into the snow we go. CN #399 with SD75I 5655 and UP "DRGW" SD40T-2 8612 thunder over the steel bridge above Main Street, heading west through downtown Brampton in the falling snow. The trailing unit shot was a touch blurred, but this one turned out okay considering.

The next step? Hop on a GO bus for a one-hour express trip to York Mills and the subway downtown, 3 hours after arriving, but with a DRGW in the camera.
