Being an east of Toronto guy, this is the only shot I took (that I remember at least) of the CP Roadrailer. I prefer my MLW's powered, but at least the 1100 looks nice enough. The Roadrailer's usual power trails, CP 6043, a unit that was recently tied up unservicable. 1405hrs.

  1. You west of Toronto? This can’t be real! ;)

  2. Saw two trains that day, one CN and this CP. Another trip in the late 90′s was equally frustrating. No wonder I’ve not had the heart to venture back!

  3. I worked the Roadrailer from time to time, one of the last times was in the 1100 in its original incarnation as the 4236.
Going through Thamesford enroute to London from Toronto ..the unit was leaking exhaust into the cab to the point hwere it was making us both sick.. In that regard,,being unpowered was deinitely an asset. That may well have been one of the last runs of 4236 before it ended up reconfigured as 1100.

  4. Ronald,

I have a fondness for the MLW’s, and CP’s C424′s in particular, which is in not short part due to not being a railroader and never having known the joy of working on them! I suppose they were even more fun as the end neared and maintenance became less of a priority.

I was invited up onto 4244 as a lad, and I recall the hogger apologizing for not having one of the newer GM’s to show me. I couldn’t have been more pleased to be in that old bucket, garbage bag for a horn cord and all.
