Westbound leader, M-636 #4711, received Caterpillar engine back in the late '80s; the only unit to be converted. All locomotives in this particular series retired by 1995. The M-424s lasted a couple of years longer. Impressive pulling power in this image: CP 4711, 4244, 4731, 4246 and 4570. Nice treat for a rather cruddy late afternoon.

  1. Always love a shot of my unit (4244), though it really should be leading.

  2. According to a few sources, this particular unit made it the last few years in service along with the C424s and RS18s until 1998.

  3. And in 1998 sold to Minnesota Commercial.
