Looking a little worse for wear, TH&B NW2 #51 switches the large W.G. Thompson facility in Blenheim, Ontario back on October 11, 1993. In the background you can see the also large King Grain facility. TH&B #51 has since gone and has been replaced by a Greater Winnipeg Water District 44tonner.

  1. This locomotive later became Ontario Southland Railway 51. Being the first OSR locomotive, it was left in TH&B colours, and a variation of the paint scheme was aplied to many OSR units. This unit is currently stored out of service in Salford.

  2. The 51 was OSR-owned by late 1992

  3. Holy crap.. I did not realize this was a thing

  4. ” a thing ” ??
51 was also used at the Rodney elevator and by 1994 was in use at PetroCanada’s refinery in Clarkson when OSR obtained that contract.

  5. As in, I did not realize 51 worked down in Blenheim.

  6. Time to learn your early OSR history James. Bruce worked for ‘em back then too :)

Old time Trains has a good summary. Jeff’s also told me in person his story and he’ll tell you if you spend time to talk to him while visiting and if he’s around to talk.

I often find Jeff hanging around Woodstock while the crews take lunch. His stories are legendary.
