    What was the method of control at this diamond? Was there an operator stationed?

    This type of crossing was common on branchlines in Ontario, so I assume in other parts of Canada too. All trains were required to stop before crossing the diamond, a crew member was supposed to walk up to the diamond & give the engineer a signal to proceed. In practice, we often just stopped & looked and then proceeded. There was no one other than train crews involved.
