For many years I had watched the TH&B diesel power pass by my home in Toronto.  I was sixteen years old on this day when I toured the Chatham Street roundhouse.  I remember feeling awed to be in the very presence of these locomotives - like walking on hallowed ground.

  1. Shown in the right side of this image is steam generator unit #500. This was constructed in 1955 from the tender portion of 4-6-4 locomotive #502 (built by Alco in 1929). This generator was sold in 1986 to the Green Mountain Railroad, Bellows Falls, Vermont. It was transferred to Steamtown in Scranton, PA, in 2002. Source: thbrailway.ca.
