After I got word of GEXR 584 doing a daylight run to Elmira and back (thanks to Steve and Jon), I figured I should seize this opportunity and get some shots as the sun was shining nicely and runs like these are numbered. Here we see GEXR 584 creeping slowly south to the GEXR mainline with LLPX 2210 and RLK 4001 and five tank cars. They are going past the fairly new University of Waterloo Engineering building with overhead passageway to another building on the UW campus. Time, 14:29.

  1. Cool :) Nice to see a daylight run for a change.

  2. Will GEXR give out the info about when the next daylight run occurs because I heard daylight freights will be history once the LTR is open and I would like to see them cross the intersection of erb and caroline st.

  3. 99: No – I know you are eager to find out about this , but you have to have some patience on the subject. Join groups.yahoo.com and sign up for the Bruce Railways – introduce yourself.

Railways do not give out information like this so you have to find it yourself, or just wait for it to happen.

That’s why you get a scanner, a copy of the Trackside Guide (http://www.bytownrailwaysociety.ca/index.php/sales-desk/canadian-trackside-guide)

Learn, Listen to your scanner, and keep Learning. You’ll get it soon enough. ;) Without these two tools, you will be in the dark.

  4. Kevin, just wanted to state that to the present day this has to be the best photo on the internet of GEXR on this line in daylight! Sure hope you didn’t mind me eagerness to catch this train in daylight 3 years earlier and to be honist part of that was the fact that I came really close to catching this run actually. I wouldn’t say I was in the ‘missed it by seconds’ situation but I came close indeed. Anyway just wanted you to know that! Also, did you shoot the train anywhere else this day or just U of W? If you did would you mind sharing the shots on here maybe on a day when you don’t got much going on just to give you something to do? No rush just though I should put it out there. Bet it’ll look so great with the clear sky! Overall to sum it all up I just wanted you to know my opinion on this photo.
