The Union Pearson Express makes an appearance. I cannot understand what Metrolinx is thinking with a 2 car airport shuttle on a $500 million project. So many possibilities ruined on day 1.

  1. Great view of the north part of the city from here Dave!

  2. The UPX is actually 3 car lengths long

    See here

They just didnt get the middle section until very recently.

Also, the $500 million was for upgrading the entire Georgetown South project I believe, which will allow hourly all-day GO train service between Bramalea and Union as well as the UPX and eventually GO RER.

When you consider all of this it was a good investment.

  3. No kidding. The 10 KM HWY 7 divided highway between HWY 85/7 in Kitchener to HWY 6 South in Guelph is going to be $400m once it’s said and done, and does not include grade seperations on the remainder of HWY 6 to the 401.

  4. For what they are charging to the UPX(and three cars is a signifcant improvement), I think it will be empty. If they’d put the money into quality double track to Kitchener, I’d be on board. There is still the promised electrification to cost as well. Time will tell how it turns out, but a 15 minute business only shuttle is a waste on money. Cost it so it becomes worth not bringing your car.
