And now for something a little different..  A large counterweight sits in the 'up' position as the former Chesapeake and Ohio ferry dock rusts away in Sarnia. Last used 20 years ago in 1995, other than the rails and ferry dock track which were removed, it sits in place just as it was, along with the Ferry Dock yard office, itself in forelorn condition. Any rp.ca members or viewers have photos from this area in better times? Sign up and submit a photo if you feel up to it!
From what I can tell the Sarnia ferry ran continuously from 1903 to 1995, at the end the ferry was used mostly to transfer over-height cars that could not fit in the tunnel at Windsor. For example, CAMI automotive traffic from Ingersoll would have been routed via CSX to Sarnia/Port Huron via the ferry in the early 90's. With the opening of the CN Tunnel and new haulage agreements, the ferry was no longer needed and closed.
