Sporting the symbol of the 1976 Montreal Summer Olympics, the Turbo train approaches Union Station.

After posting my last Turbo picture, Dave Tinslay wrote to tell me about an experience he had on the train. With Dave’s permission, here’s his story…

“It must have been between 1972 (when I came to Montreal) and 1976 (when I got married). I had very long hair with a Fu- Man-Chu moustache and big wooly sideburns. So anyways, I went up to the 1st Class entrance of the train dressed in jeans - jean jacket - T-shirt and sneakers. The attendant looked at me and in a very degrading voice said to me, "This is 1st Class buddy". I showed him my ticket and he turned redder than the nose of the Turbo. I told him, "I'm a railfan, not a bum". So he took my bag and escorted me to the front seat. When breakfast was served he served me first. I didn’t act offended by his comment, but you know I had a big smile on my face the whole way to Ottawa!”

  1. Thanks for the Turbo Shot. I was fortunate enough to have a couple of rides as a kid during the CN years.

  2. Great shot. Is the Turbo preserved anywhere?
