A scene from happier times. The southbound Northlander has detrained its passengers at Union Station and is heading to the VIA TMC to be wyed and serviced in preparation for the northbound trip in the morning. Just over two years later, the train was no more, the victim of short-sighted provincial government cutbacks. When I took this shot in 2010, I had no idea how much of my time would be taken up by the ONR. When the government's plan to kill the Northlander was announced in 2012, I began working on a new history of the ONR, which was published in 2014.
