Literally " lifting the ballast ", CP 100 approaches MP 59 of the Broadview Sub. The previous day, a ballast regulator had been working the area, and everything behind 8865 is now getting obscured with dust.

  1. I love this shot, reminds me of my working days. That dust is typical of the first few movements after ballast work, whether new ballast was applied, or ‘old’ ballast rearranged. A few trains or a good rainstorm end that interesting visual effect. Back in the days of cabooses, there were situations like this where enough dust entered the ‘van’ that it had to be wiped off working surfaces like the electric stove & desk.
