VIA was running two trains a day to Montreal back in 1980. Here, the "Ocean" is at Prince Arthur St, shortly after beginning the journey to Montreal.
There were many times when the lead FPA-4 was replaced by a leased CN RS-18 - a big disappointment to this photographer at the time. Even though I have been to Halifax in recent times, I don't bother to railfan the area. It is just not that interesting any more. This scene has changed quite a bit. Vegetation has encroached significantly and there is only one track, if Google street view is to be believed.

  1. At first glance I was thinking this seems a tad under powered… then you realize those are B units not coaches or baggage cars.
