Caption: A better view of Mitford siding is had by this elevated view. The abandoned coal mines would have been located in that heavily wooded slope on the left, maybe as far wast as the conifers.
Mitford is also a junction with the Copithorn Spur, an 8.9 mile steep and twisted piece of railroad that leads to a sulphur plant. I suppose that there were unit train that would load there but I never saw one, nor did I have a radio to get the heads-up as when I might try to catch one. Bing Maps has a detailed photo of the facility, and currently (2016), it looks like they are shipping liquid products, perhaps sulphur and LPG?
