Built in London in 1960 as SW1200RS 8171 and converted to a remote control cab . CP 1160s fate is at hand. A site no railroader should ever witness , having worked on these units for many years. The location is track 1 at the Toronto diesel shop. Because of safety concerns the scraping of this unit and many others was moved to an isolated track away from where employees where working. 8171 spent most of it time switching around the SOO and other northern Ontario yards.

  1. Sad to see. The SW1200′s were a familar sight in my youth

  2. Ouch, that’s tough to swallow.

  3. This is so depressing. Sad to see these classic units go.

  4. A lot of fond memories of these units from my younger years and the times working on the 8100,s. Back in the day 3 units where the norm on the London pick up . I got to ride this train several times with my dad. The sound of these units lifting over tonnage ratings was nothing less then incredible.

  5. Darrell, Did you get my earlier message regarding LASCO 3 asking for permission to put it on my website? Raymond.

  6. Ray, I just realized the contact form has been broken for a few months. I’ve fixed it. Sorry about that!

Any messages were NOT sent unfortunately. My bad!

  7. Ray, yes you may use the picture for your web site. Also have Lasco # 1 and 7, an Ohio crane. Was going to post these in the future but can send to you should you wish.
