The great domes now dominate the Kitchener landscape as construction of the "ION" LRT infrastructure continues - this will be used to pour concrete this week for the King St underpass, and to keep the project on-time a $2M Dome was required to cover the site. This work should have been done earlier this year but Metrolinx purchase of the track plus other things delayed the underpass project adding to the local taxpayer ire (as reported in the papers). ION is expected to be in service in 2017.
At left of the dome is a new glass and yellow brick industrial building retrofit - for the new Google Canadian headquarters - you can kind of see the familiar Google logo colours on the white silo. The track at right is the Huron Park Spur which has been re-aligned.
