From Daniel Odette's recent post of his photo of the Stanley Street crossing, he had mentioned how much has changed on the rail scene in Niagara Falls.

My first trip to the station was a few years before this photo was taken. The massive rail yard (in front of the station) was long gone along with all other structures related to the steam and early diesel era. However, there were still 4 tracks intact.

Here, in 2005 - I came to the station on my second trip and found two sidings were gone. Little did I know too that the Victoria Street yard had also vanished. The area is a sad place to visit...almost forgotten...and even sadder upon my last trip to the grounds in 2009. Weeds have overtaken most of the area, although, somewhat good news is the fact that GO is now operating seasonally.

  1. I went to Niagara Falls in 2003 myself, and there was still a fair bit there even compared to now. I do remember seeing the Victoria yard as well. At least permanent Niagara Falls GO service would see a layover facility around here. Maybe a change in railroad philosophy to deliver freight to nearby shopping plazas and such would see the yard active again one day, as I’m sure those gamblers and kids around Clifton Hill use a lot of supplies.
