The last run of Canadian Pacific train #21, with CP FP9 1412 leading an F7B, is shown at Guelph Junction station (note the platforms and semaphone signals behind the train) on April 25th 1964. CP #21 was a long established full service train that ran from Montreal to Toronto, and on to Windsor and Detroit. Then transferred to Michigan Central to Chicago. The CP timetable referred to it as the "Chicago Express". All trains after (except the "Canadian") would be RDCs.

  2. The 1412 is set up to lead The Canadian isn’t it? Those things on top were to break icicles in all the tunnels to ensure the dome cars wouldn’t be damaged.

  3. Splendid picture of the best passenger units in Canada. 21 and 22 continued to operate between Toronto and Montreal for a few more months until the end of the pool agreement.

  4. Those ‘things’ are called icicle breaker bars.

  5. This train used to get into London around noon if I recall. I was going to high school at Beck in London in 1964, and I remember sometimes seeing it from the cafeteria window.
