Caption: Thank you for your 32 years of dedicated service.Built in 1984 this SD40-2 no longer pulls freight and awaits it's fate in storage to either the scrapper's torch or hopefully a regional or shortline that may one day run it again.

  1. No that is not the case, it matters if it was stored serviceable or non serviceable, but even then if CP faces a big boom in traffic and lots of $$$ then they will be released from storage and into service again, plus if they would never run again they would be off roster and retired, they are still on the roster

  2. And 32 years is quite a sad ending because there are engines on the CN roster that have outlived it by decades, even other SD40-2s like the ex MPs which were built in 1973

  3. True, but it does seem unlikely just because of the amount of newer GE’s that are currently stored and the batches of SD’s that have been sold recently. However, we can hope that there will be some that CP will eventually use again.

  4. Well for 32 years old and still having original paint it still looks good. Paul what kind of miles would be on these units do they have something to track mileage?

  5. Paul, are there any still running as of the fourth of june 2016? Because I have seen videos recently of 6023 and STL&H 5651, The 6023 was leading a ballast train (this was last week when it was uploaded) and STL&H 5651 was a few days ago so there has to be some still in use

  6. Regarding the mileage on these units, the only thing that would keep track on the loco itself would be the event recorder (blackbox) Plus train services planning would keep track of the assignments for each engine and distance traveled for overhaul purposes.

  7. CNSD60F: STL&H 5651 was one of the sold off ones heading south into the US to Metro East Industries in St. Louis.

  8. You sure? because it was the second engine in the lash up and trailing were 2 gp38-2s, you are probably thinking about 5560 which WAS sold

  9. Hi Guys, just found out that there are 6 SD40-2′s in the 6000 series currently in service and all at ST.Paul. Stl&H 5560 is also still in the shop at Agincourt.

  10. Be right back going to St. Paul
