About a year after the start up of VIA we see No. 1 at Ottawa in this photo by Bruce Chapman. From the puff of black smoke it looks like the engineer has just opened the throttle. A common complaint from engine crews, when they had an MLW with the long hood forward, was fumes in the cab. One has to wonder why the freshly painted geep was not put in the lead.
