Life after the Praries, the CN only GMD-1 was once a very plentiful locomotive. Over the years a few were Transferred to eastern Canada. This was the last stand for the vunerable model as they worked with GP9s and GP38s. Up until the end of 2015 it was hard enough to find one on a local, yet finding a pair. Here is train 547 clearing the glaas lead in Milton and waiting to be cleared out into the mainline, with a pair of GMD-1s. In 2016 it appears that the GMD-1s have been retired.

  1. Nice catch !

  2. The GMD-1′s are not retired..yet. They are in storage.

  3. Let’s hope they come out of storage one day. I like variety:)

  4. Fingers crossed. They have moved many of the stored units at Mac Yrd back to service in the last couple months. Hopefully the GMD-1′s will be coming back too.

  5. Good News! CN has re-activated CN 1412, 1437, 1439 and 1444(I think). All three units except for 1444 now regularly work as local switchers all across southern Ontario. CN 1444 was moved out of the MacMillan yard along with 1412 and 1437 last March but hasn’t been spotted yet.

    Nice catch!
