The years haven't been kind to Chatham's downtown core. Once prominent industries and mills that not only were served by the CP, seem to have vanished either due to relocation (including to the US) or closed due to the recent economic downturns. But it does have it's benefits, especially if you are a railfan. One can easily sit trackside at numerous spots in downtown Chatham, letting the imagination run wild of "what once was..." in passing time between trains. Today, on a day not normally known to be this warm in January, the calmness of a lazy Sunday afternoon is broken by the grumblings led by the infamous GEVO's - 9718 being in the lead of this westbound freight.
