Caption: An Alco RS3 is in charge of an eclectic mix of motive power on this long westbound freight at Canfield. Trailing NYC 8229 are an Alco FA1, FB2, and FA2. RS3's were leaders numerous times. Especially in the early to mid 1960s. Like their EMD counterparts they were in use across the system, on regional and local freight ( and passenger). Sometimes there was no rhyme or reason as to which unit was the leader. Just slap a bunch together and get the train out of the yard...
