And I don't always shoot electric traction - but here's one from the "I can't believe it's still here" department. Articulated LRV 4214 exits the Roncesvalles Carhouse for the 301 Long Branch - the 312 and 516 will also exit within minutes in a constant parade of 'on borrowed time' LRV's typical of the Toronto Transit Commission's streetcar network. I'm not a huge fan of the TTC, or really transit in general unless it has freight motors, but the Sunnyside pedestrian bridge is just behind me and full of grimy and dirty diesel action :) Shoot it while you can, it's on borrowed time, including the Sunnyside bridge - soon to be electrified and any photo angles you thought you had will be gone.

  1. I’ll be glad when the CLRV’s are gone. I’m not a huge fan of the ALRV’s either. Some of the CLRV’s are already gone, at least the worst examples, but that paint job can only hide so much.

On borrowed time doesn’t mean much for the TTC, because they are forced to keep on using these past their lifespan. On a tour of the Harvey Shops, the tour guide flat out told us to get used to these things being around until they have enough Flexity Outlooks. He also told us, very bluntly they are forced to rebuild these and the parts are no longer available, which means they have to cannabalize parts from those that are running or that are on their way to the scrap heap. When I toured the new Leslie Barns, I saw some of the worst examples (both CLRV and ALRV) parked there awaiting removal.

This would answer the “I can’t believe it’s still here” question.

  2. I posted this for you, Cam :) Glad you like it bud :)

  3. “Cam and his streetcars” “Cam is so obsessed with streetcars” “Hey Cam freight trains are over there” “Cam and his streetcars” “Streetcar foam”

    ;-)

  4. Haha! Well the bridge would require modification or replacement anyway for electrification – Barriers would be installed to avoid objects being thrown over :)

  5. Not o much the Sunnyside bridge electrified, the tracks underneath. Otherwise photography as you’ve described could be a shocking experience!
