It's a rainy Sunday day in Niagara, and 3582 sits in the Merriton yard alone with it's train it put together Friday. The crew ran out of time after servicing a couple places in St Catharines, parked the train for the weekend and went to go relax for a couple days before coming back to take it to Welland on Monday. 3582 started off it's life as CN 2582, before being bought by RailLink and it became 3582. It become a TimberTrain engine before being bought by STER. 3582 was used down on the PCHR in the summer of 2012 while the other engines underwent work. After the STER was closed in 2014, PCHR acquired both of their engines for good. While 1842 was used for a while down in St Catharines, 3582 was used up in Port Colbourne and Welland. So when I saw this engine parked at Merriton, I was a bit surprised. Fast forward to 2017, and this engine spends most of its time parked at Atlas Steel. However, according to Trillium this engine still is in service, I guess it's a backup engine nowadays. With a new switcher being acquired from GATX for Trillium, I wonder how much use this engine will see in the future.

  1. This didn’t get much service on the Trillium down this way did it? Sitting dead at Atlas Steel last week..

  2. It was used quite a bit up in Port Colbourne & Welland once brought down full time. This was the only time I saw it in St Catharines though. It’s still in service, Trillium just don’t like to use it. Apparently it’s hell to switch with it

  4. All the units that Trillium don’t use sit there. 110, 1842, 744 and 101 are there with 3582. The van is still there, too.
