A mixed quartet of CSX power (8075-8165-4166-7516) brings the Rock Train up and out of the Detroit River Tunnel into Windsor, Ontario on March 15th 1983.  The Phospahte rock, originating in Florida will be interchanged to CP Rail for furtherance to Port Maitland.

  6. I worked the very first phosphate rock train from Quebec Street to Aberdeen yard in Hamilton. When these trains started up, they were assigned 3 SD-40-2s for their dynamic brake capacity from Waterdown to Hamilton Jct. We had company officials riding with us & a 3 page instruction sheet, when to apply the brake, how many lbs etc. Other crew members were making comments like “I hope your life insurance is paid up”. The empty cars being returned also ran as a unit train. These jobs were good for the east pool, we often ran van hop after setting the train off in Aberdeen, sometimes back to London, but more typically back to Guelph Jct & then to Toronto.That would happen if one or more of the following were needed in Toronto: crews, power or vans.
