GO was originally set up in part of the old CN Mimico freight yards (CN moved a lot of their freight operations out of the city proper, and to Toronto (MacMillan) Yard in Vaughan). The old CN Mimico Carshops were used as GO's early maintenance facilities when they started up in the late 60's, until new modern ones were built at Willowbrook Yard.
