Ray Patton's distinctive Alco nose design and styling dating from the 1940's lived on long after most American roads retired and traded in their FA & PA locomotives: Canadian National's fleet of MLW-built FPA4's (and matching FPB4 B-units) had long lives hauling passenger trains in southern Ontario corridor service and in eastern Canada, going on to serve national carrier VIA Rail until they were retired and sold off in the late 80's (ironically, many went to American tourist roads and shortlines). Here, FPA-4 6783 and its well-worn nose sit parked overnight in Guelph, in May of 1972.
