Jarvis behind the old station, wasn’t sure if the track beyond was part of the old wye?
Great work Marcus. If this is correct, the track in foreground would have been part of the connecting track and yard used by freights until the Garnet bypass was built – which was around this time.
The bypass eliminated Garnet – Jarvis Cayuga sub moves and of course built the new yard which has since been expanded.
The one thing that throws it off is I can’t see the hydro lines in the distance, unless they weren’t installed yet?
Apparently commissioned 1978… perhaps this is elsewhere?
I think you have a morning shot here….based on the sun angle…late afternoon/evening in Jarvis the sun would be more head on…moving over from the south side of the tracks.
Have some really good evidence from Aaron White that this is Cayuga so we’ve updated to reflect. If so this is a westbound.
Stephen, in addition to Aaron’s confirmation of the location, my research indicates N&W 8030 is westbound and has just passed and is obscuring the former Great Western Railway station location at Cayuga (42.957355, -79.856570) and is easing into the left hand curve at Mile 49.00 that will take it under Hwy 54 and out across the Grand River. The trademark modern CN gas shack (grey with orange door) sits directly behind the Sectionmen toolhouse which was immediately east of the station building, the hydro feed to the toolhouse can be seen drooping across the right of way. I am not sure what the status of the station building was in 1979 however the Sectionman toolhouse survived until the line was abandoned. Thanks to a former colleague for providing track diagrams which helped me validate the siding and back track configuration.
