The time is 0724 and CP 6062 has the early morning light glowing on its action red stripes as a Herzog ballast train blasts by to load in Sudbury. Wasting no time, the hogger of this train averaged 49 MPH between London and Guelph Junction, chasing was a futile effort, but bagging one of these in 2018 was not.
Action red stripes leading in 2018 is a very rare thing - there are three GP38-2's in this paint scheme that are active, and maybe a small handful of re-activated SD40-2's so finding action red on the point, once common, is now almost a lottery draw. It was also nearly 5 years since my last photo here.

  1. Also hats off to Paul and the CP team – when Paul posted that these would be re-activated I certainly was hopeful to get one – glad I did, took me over a year since my last photo of a SD40-2 leading on CP.

  2. What a refreshing scene, right on Steve !

  3. :)

  4. Very nice, Stephen. Those SD’s sure look good.

  5. Crazy eh… they were like water years ago and I took ‘em for granted. Mind you, I do have copious shots of ‘em. The young kids are the ones that don’t. Poor guys :)

  6. And glad you boys like it. Thanks for the kudos.

  7. They have torn down many of the old telephone poles in our area. Having them still up really helps to complete this scene. :-) Without being to redundant hopefully, images like this must getting close to the last of the last. Beauty frozen moment.

  8. The codeline is already redundant, they were using it on the Galt sub to control OCS signals until about two years ago, which are 80% replaced.

Within a year or two the rest of the old Searchlights will be gone and I expect then the wires to be removed. Wires were removed in sections already near Puslinch.
