Several years ago, I asked the late Lawrence Stuckey if he had any steam era photos of Reston, my mom's home town. He hadn't taken any but one of his wife's relatives, who lived in Nebraska, always stopped in Reston on his way to Brandon. This photo shows the Reston station, looking west. The town had a small yard because the mixed trains would branch off at the far end of town onto the Reston sub which went to Wolsely, Saskatchewan. As a kid in the early sixties, I'd hang around waiting to see if the weekly wayfreight to Arcola was coming through. The crew always stopped the waycar by the station and unloaded LCL, mostly empty cream cans (that stunk to high heaven). The track closest to the camera was a long passing siding. The wye for the Reston sub was located by the coal tower in the distance. Mr. Stuckey gave these to me and kindly gave me written permission to do whatever I wanted to do with them. Hope you all enjoy them (there are two more to come)

  1. I’d push that estimate 20 years…. 1930′s? I don’t recall seeing photos from the 1950′s in this tintype style with that writing on it.. but i’m no expert, it just seems much older than 1950′s.
