Classic EMD E8A CP 1800 leads a Quebec City to Montreal (westbound) passenger train into Trois-Rivieres station in the twilight of a summer evening circa 1970. I was a passenger on this train, returning to T-R after a family day trip (by car) to Quebec City. I can thank my father for the train ticket and photo. Trois-Rivieres is approximately the mid-point of this former St. Lawrence north shore train service. Dwarf and mast signals can be seen behind the train. The between-tracks platform was no longer in service, its canopy removed.
During 1970 and into 1971, either CP 1800 or 1802 frequently powered Passenger services on this line, otherwise a single FP7A or FP9a. I used to wonder about CP 1801, but it had been in a crash at the end of 1968. A dual-diesel E8A powering up and departing sounds great, standing alongside under the platform canopy. One of CP's earliest mainline diesels, the EMD builder plate showed 2250 HP, 1949 built. Some Alco yard switchers seen in T-R were even older.
Some time in 1971 the passenger trains on this line got converted to sets of RDC "Dayliners".

  1. Classic.

  2. I did a round trip on this route about the same time. There was a Skyline car that was used as a parlour car (in the former coach section) and dining car (with tablecoths and traditional silver in the coffee shop section). Perhaps not every train had that amenity.
