As most of us living in Southwestern Ontario experienced, we saw the increase of rerouted trains due to the Sarnia Tunnel derailment that occurred at the end of June. Here, in Chatham most rerouted trains would sit for hours on end on the outskirts of town as the Chatham Subdivision was only single tracked from 'Chatham East' all the way to Windsor. Add this with the eight VIA trains that stop in Chatham, it was quite congested between both the rerouted traffic going both east and west.

Here, leased unit 2033 leads CN 367 west to Windsor. Well, it will as they sit and wait for eastbound reroute CN 324 and the two VIA's on this wonderful Sunday evening in early July. To make this night even more better, after taking this photo I had a half hour conversation with the conductor at the Hwy 40 crossing.

  1. I really like this Todd, the perspective down the track with the trees closing in is pretty neat. Not that we do not have tall trees here, they are nowhere near as bushy or full.

  2. Thanks Larry! This was the best angle I could get. :)

  3. Glad you got to see the detours! This was a good one!
