Caption: One of the coolest spots in Edmonton to photograph trains is the the Westlock Sub near Carbondale. I studied the topo maps and later learned to listen to the radio, where engines coming off the shops would speak with the switchtender to learn where their train was located. This meant that I had about an hour to get into position. We bundled the kids up into the car and my wife drove us north of town. 806, being a grain train wasn't predictable, but trains tended to be "bundled" around the comings and goings of the regular freight trains 418 and 419. I cannot remember if that was the case this day. I would doubt it though, based on the sun angle. This train is bound for McLennan. In 1995, only light 4 axle (and a few ex NAR SD-38's) plied these rails. I understand that this is longer the case. CN is running much bigger power up that way now.
