Caption: This is the beginning of a long day out with Fred Clark. We heard that the 419 was about to leave, so we went north of the city and walked into the Sturgeon River Valley. This sweeping view shows the train on the descent, before the river crossing on a wood trestle. The excess power up front isn't there to tackle stiff grades (though there a few). In all likelihood, they are simply transferring power back to Smith that had been in Walker Shops.
