Though I appreciate the classic structure shots, I have not been one to post one myself in present times. I thought the roundhouse in Prince Albert would be an exception, though. This former CN roundhouse is still in use to this day, where the Carlton Trail Railway (OmniTRAX) stores its four GP38-2s and one GP10 when they are not out working. This classic Bill Hooper shot shows a view of the roundhouse in a much different scene in Prince Albert. None of those elevators pictured are still standing, and things are more built up now. The Carlton Trail is a railway I have tried to catch a couple times when I have been out in Saskatchewan (once when I extended a work trip, and more recently this past August when I was out there for vacation), but have had no luck. Their customers include the Viterra Inland Terminal (north of Prince Albert in White Star), Carrier Lumber (in Prince Albert), Belle Pulses (operating out of the old Pool elevator in Duck Lake), and others. Of course they are in the car storage business too with tanks all along their line in places like Rosthern. They interchange with CN in Saskatoon. Getting skunked on the Carlton Trail wasn't the end of the world, as later on in the day I chased the Torch River from Choiceland to Nipawin. I had to cross a track to take this photo, and it was taken only after getting permission first. There were no active operations ongoing at the time.
