I love seeing these obscure parts of railroading, neat catch for sure James! Interesting/sad that the sister 4003 has been at Railcar for almost a year now too.
Looking at my calendar I had a meeting in Burlington that afternoon so I must’ve detoured past the yard on my way back. The obscure and random is what keeps us coming back!
Any idea whatès going on with 4003?

Waiting for something to do, Colm. Any G&W property could call it up and it’ll be sent out….. or G&W could get a contract in Hamilton to switch some facility, or could lease the unit out.. who knows??
It’s sitting on a G&W property now so it’s in good hands.
Phew! Had me scared for a bit, that’s one of my favourite units. Hopefully it sees action soon somewhere!
Colm you can photograph it from the fence at Citykidz. Just be careful, quick in and out as port patrol will kick you off property if they see you

If they got after the trucks it would bring some of the silver back out for us picture takers (it does look like the trucks have been painted).
Hopefully someone will recognize 4001′s historical significance such that preservation takes place. Built by EMD in August of 1959 as SP 5872, the late production GP9 was among first, if not the first, factory built low nose/short hood forward units.
