On a fine summer evening in 1962, train No. 18 pauses at Burlington behind FPA4s 6786 and 6785. Largely an express train (with a sole "rider coach" at the tail end), this train originated in London at 4:45 PM daily except Sunday and was scheduled to arrive in Toronto at 8:50 PM then depart four hours later for Montreal's Central Station, finally arriving at 10:40 AM. In prior years, this train originated in Windsor (for example, the April 30, 1961 public timetable shows No. 18 departing Windsor at 12:50 and arriving London at 3:42 PM). In April 1962, CN made changes to service in southwestern Ontario, so perhaps the express traffic from Windsor was moved on No. 106 which was scheduled to depart Windsor at 11:35 AM. A review of public timetables turned up a note stating the last trip of No. 18 from London to Toronto was December 31, 1964; the train was still shown between Toronto and DORVAL in April 1965 timetables and no longer listed a year later.

  1. Yikes! I was only 4 when this picture was taken. Awesome pic

  2. The way CNR trains are supposed to look, assuming a steam locomotive is unavailable.
